At Koukla Collective, our work is founded by the belief that a well designed home makes all the difference, and that everyone has a right to that kind of a home. We believe in the power of design and its ability to transform spaces and mindsets alike. We also believe it has nothing to do with materialism or marble everything
- it's about the feeling that you get.
Interior design has been second nature to Caroline since she was a little girl. At the age of four, she would steal her mother’s coveted copies of Southern Living & Architectural Digest, only to rip out the pages and piece together her very own design book. Caroline also grew up moving around a lot in homes that evolved in style throughout the years. No matter where she lived, the feeling she got from being at home remained the same. Collected, welcoming, warm, comfortable, interesting. This gave her the confidence that she could create ‘home’ wherever she goes and the desire to do the same for others.
My style can best be described perhaps as something ‘borrowed’ from each different genre of style and my interest in juxtaposition: old and new, soft and angular, high end pieces with flea market finds, classics and trends, solids and pattern, pieces that inspire next to pieces that provide rest.
However, my approach towards design with clients is far less about my personal style and more about helping you find yours. After all, it’s your home. It should tell your stories, reflect your history and provide you with the unique function you need to support your smallest daily rituals to your most significant life moments. My goals is to help you define that, and then ensure that it’s reflected harmoniously throughout your space — whether its just one room, a rented apartment or an entire home.
Caroline is a native Houstonian who has also lived much of her life in northern California. Her family has deep Greek roots, and when the time came to name her design business that she built with her mother — the name was obvious. Koukla, a Greek term of endearment often when she was a young girl, a word that reflected roots of love, tradition, warmth and belonging.
Caroline is mother of two little boys and dreams of creating the same kind of home for them one day.
Mary is a mother of two daughters, and a beloved grandmother to five little boys. Even after all these years, her house (although different from the ones she grew up in) still makes Caroline feel right at home.
